This is the most urgent of the common faults. An engine survives only a few minutes on low pressure — stop right away, do not try to make it back to base.
The oil film in the bearings is already breaking down. Every minute under load is metal on metal on the crank journals.
Next comes spun bearings and a full engine rebuild. Shut it down now and coast to the shoulder without revving.
Shut the engine down. Check the oil level with the dipstick and look underneath for leaks. Don’t restart until pressure is back.
The answer depends on the code, not the light. A yellow light is a warning; a red one means do not move. But even under a yellow light there are faults that require stopping right away — low oil pressure, overheating, lost brake pressure.
