SPN 558 — Accelerator Pedal Idle Limit Switch #1

Safe to driveDrivable, but watch it yourself

J1939 code SPN 558. Below — how the fault is worded at the factory by DAF, Mercedes-Benz, Renault Trucks and SITRAK, and what the second half of the code (FMI) means in the standard.

DAFMercedes-BenzRenault TrucksSITRAK

DAF

FMI 2Accelerator pedal idle switch signal fault
FMI 4Accelerator pedal voltage too low at ECU pin B1/B11
FMI 13Accelerator pedal not calibrated, out of tolerance

Mercedes-Benz

FMI 2Idle Validation Switch Inputs Reversed
FMI 3Idle Validation Switch 1 Circuit shorted to Ubat
FMI 4Idle Validation Switch 1 Circuit shorted to GND
FMI 6Idle Validation Switch 2 Circuit shorted to Ubat

Renault Trucks

FMI 7“Accelerator pedal released” contact stuck closed or open. Repair: Check the continuity of the link on pins 3 and 4 of the pedal unit with the pedal released, press the pedal and check that the state changes; if it does, check the wiring (SL2/1).

SITRAK

FMI 2Accelerator pedal and idle switch signals do not match. Scan tool code: P2135.

Can I keep driving

Safe to drive. Below — how much time you have and what happens if you keep going.

What happens if you keep driving

Time you have: Drivable, but watch it yourself

This is an electrical fault: an open, a short or a bad contact in the sensor circuit. The value it measures is most likely fine.

You can drive. But until the circuit is repaired this system runs blind and cannot warn you about a real failure.
