All fault codes: SPN and FMI

1877 codes decoded from the factory tables of 20 makes. Below — the full list by system and the standard FMI table: with it the code reads whole, not by halves.

What FMI means in J1939

The SPN number says what is faulty, FMI says what exactly is wrong with it. The second half of the code is the same for every make — that is the J1939 standard.

FMI 0data above normal range (most severe level)
FMI 1data below normal range (most severe level)
FMI 2data erratic or intermittent
FMI 3voltage above normal or shorted high
FMI 4voltage below normal or shorted to ground
FMI 5current below normal or open circuit
FMI 6current above normal or grounded circuit
FMI 7mechanical system not responding
FMI 8abnormal frequency or pulse width
FMI 9abnormal update rate
FMI 10abnormal rate of change
FMI 11root cause not known
FMI 12faulty device or component
FMI 13calibration out of range
FMI 14manufacturer-specific instructions
FMI 15above normal — low severity
FMI 16above normal — moderate severity
FMI 17below normal — low severity
FMI 18below normal — moderate severity
FMI 19error in received network data
FMI 20data drifted high
FMI 21data drifted low
FMI 31condition exists (see manufacturer description)
