J1939 code SPN 59. Below — how the fault is worded at the factory by Renault Trucks, SITRAK and ZF AS-Tronic, and what the second half of the code (FMI) means in the standard.

| FMI 8 | PTO sensor fault (the control unit receives a PTO engaged message while PTO control is not active). Repair: Check the power take-off solenoid valve (40 ohms < R < 50 ohms) and its sensor. Check the wiring between the Astronic and the component (X1A/10). Run the diagnostic check of the VECU electronic unit. Check the parameters. Switch the ignition off, switch it on again and repeat the test. If the fault persists, replace the control unit. |
| FMI 2 | Reverse gear switch signal not plausible. Effect: Power limited, the engine runs unevenly. |
| FMI 19 | Gearbox position signal error on the CAN bus. Effect: Loss of communication with the modules, some functions are disabled. |
ZF AS-Tronic uses its own fault numbering: the number in the table below is an internal ZF code, not a J1939 SPN. It matches the title of this page by digit only and means something different.
| FMI 8 | Fault in the power take-off 1 (PTO1) engagement confirmation signal. |
| SPN 59 FMI 259/2 · 59.2 | data erratic or intermittent |
| SPN 59 FMI 859/8 · 59.8 | abnormal frequency or pulse width |
| SPN 59 FMI 1959/19 · 59.19 | error in received network data |
Safe to drive. Below — how much time you have and what happens if you keep going.
The gearbox or clutch has gone into limp mode: some gears may be unavailable and an automated box may stop shifting under load.
The main risk is being left on a climb with no gear and rolling back. Do not take a loaded truck into the hills; reaching level ground and a shop is fine.
