Mercedes-Benz fault codes

The reference covers 118 codes from the factory tables of Mercedes-Benz — the full list by system is below, stop-now codes first.

Codes that mean stop now

lubrication — 1 codes

cooling — 2 codes

fuel — 2 codes

intake / boost — 1 codes

power supply — 6 codes

CAN bus — 5 codes

brakes — 5 codes

transmission — 8 codes

other — 88 codes

How to read a code

A code has two halves. SPN is what is actually at fault — the sensor, component, or parameter. FMI is what is wrong with it — value out of range, open circuit, short circuit, invalid data. So “SPN 100” alone is not a diagnosis yet, but “100/1” already tells you oil pressure has dropped below normal.

If there are several codes at once

That is almost always how it goes: one fault drags five or six codes behind it. An empty AdBlue tank first throws a level error, then interrupted dosing, then a NOx excess and a torque derate. Fix the root cause and the rest clear on their own. Paste the whole list — we will show which code is the root cause.

Mercedes-Benz code examples

0000Atego MTCO: The positioning of the tachograph charts is disturbed. Atego ZHE: Control unit fault Actros ZHE: The control unit is faulty.
1015Atego AGS: A checksum error occurred while reading the EEPROM. Atego MR: The oil temperature sensor has exceeded the measuring range (short circuit to positive, open circuit). Atego NR: Incorrect checksum of the pressure sensor calibration data. Atego PSM: Checksum error in the control unit software
2742The retarder oil temperature sensor has an open circuit or a short circuit to ground.
4644Atego FR: The accelerator pedal sensor is stiff Axor EHZ: The steered wheel angle sensor 'Rear tag axle 1' has a winding short circuit
7405Proportional valve 5 has a short circuit to positive.
10820Internal error in the control unit.
13523Unknown fault code. Unknown fault type: 0
16820SCR compressed air pressure too high.
540003CAN message 'Vehicle speed' incorrect or unavailable.
110B02Parking brake status implausible
30F0ECEDW: Component 'B43 (interior protection sensor)' has a functional fault. MSF: Component 'S22 (vehicle level control system control panel)' has an electrical fault.
66F0E7Component 'A67 y1 (AdBlue® pressure reducing valve)' is sticking.
A40408Component Y636 (charge air pressure control actuator) reports a fault.
BE0000Engine crankshaft speed too high.
MR 1415Combination sensor 'boost pressure and charge air temperature': pressure sensor exceeded the measuring range (short circuit to positive, open circuit).

Know the code number? Type it into the search — or paste the whole list from the scanner and we will show which fault is the real one.
